Quick setup checklist
Use Active contacts to start flows only for recently engaged users.
The option to target recent users appears when you manually start a flow.
- Open a flow
- Click Start
- View the Flow Start dialog
[CAPTURE: Show the Flow Start dialog with the recent-activity checkbox visible.]
When the Active contacts option is enabled, the flow will start only contacts who have sent a message within a selected timeframe.
Available activity windows:
- Last 90 days
- Last 180 days
- Last 365 days
[CAPTURE: Show the Active contacts checkbox with the timeframe dropdown expanded.]
This option is especially useful for broadcasts, surveys, reminders, and re-engagement flows.
A contact is considered active if they have:
- Sent any message to your workspace
- Within the selected time window
Note: Receiving messages alone does not count as activity—contacts must initiate or reply.
Targeting recent users can be combined with other flow start options, such as:
- Skipping contacts currently in another flow
- Excluding contacts who recently completed the same flow
The contact counter updates in real time to reflect all selected options.

Common Issues
The flow starts fewer contacts than expected
Cause: Some contacts are excluded because they have not sent a message within the selected activity window.
Fix: Expand the timeframe (e.g., from 90 to 180/365 days) or remove the Active contacts filter.
A contact received messages recently but is still considered inactive
Cause: Receiving messages does not count as activity. The contact must send a message (initiate or reply) within the window.
Fix: Ask the contact to reply to any message (even a simple “OK”) to update their recent activity status.
Contacts are excluded even though they are active
Cause: Another sending option (such as skipping contacts currently in a flow) may also be enabled.
Fix: Review all selected sending options and check the contact counter preview to understand exclusions.
