Sorting Contacts by Field Column

You can sort the Contacts list by any Featured field that appears as a column by clicking its column header to toggle ascending and descending order, which makes it easy to quickly organize contacts by values like Age or Created On—while keeping in mind that correct sorting depends on the field type (Number vs Date & Time vs Text).

Sort the Contacts list by a field column in a few steps

If you just need the essentials, follow this:

  1. Make sure the field is visible as a Featured column on the Contacts list
  2. Go to Contacts and find the column you want to sort by
  3. Click the column header once to sort, then click again to reverse the order
  4. If sorting looks wrong, confirm the field type matches the data (Number/Date & Time/Text)

You’re done. Your Contacts list will be ordered by the field values you chose.

Step-by-Step Process

1
Understand what can be sorted

On the Contacts page, Featured contact fields appear as columns. By clicking a column header, you can change how the contacts list is sorted by that field.
This is helpful when you want to quickly organize contacts by values like Age, Created On, or a featured custom field.

2
Find the Featured column you want to sort by

  1. Go to Contacts.
  2. Find the Featured field column you want to sort by (for example, Created On or Age).

3
Click the column header to toggle sort order

  1. Click the column header once to sort in one direction.
  2. Click the same header again to reverse the sort order.

Note: Sorting depends on the field type. Number fields (like Age) sort numerically, while date fields (like Created On) sort by date/time.

4
Example: sort by Age for quick cohort review

If you track Age as a featured field, sorting can help you quickly review youngest → oldest or oldest → youngest, which is useful for demographic checks
and cohort organization.

Common Issues & Quick Fixes

Problem: Clicking the header doesn’t change the order.

Fix: Confirm the field is visible as a column (it must be Featured and shown in the current Contacts view). Refresh the Contacts page and try again.

Problem: The sort order looks wrong for ages or numbers.

Fix: Values may be stored as text instead of a numeric field type. Ensure the field type is Number in Contacts → Fields, then clean up existing values so they match the numeric format.
