Labeling Messages for Classification and Search

Message labels help you classify and organize incoming and outgoing messages. Labels make it easier to review conversations, filter and analyze message activity, and understand trends when exporting data. You can apply labels manually in the Messages tab or automatically within a flow.

Quick setup checklist

Use labels consistently to improve triage, reporting, and exports.

  1. Create a new message label
  2. Apply labels manually in Messages
  3. Label messages automatically in a flow
  4. Standardize naming for reporting

Step-by-Step Process

1
Create a message label

  1. Go to the Messages tab.
  2. Click the menu icon (☰) in the top-right corner.
  3. Select New Label.
  4. Enter a label name, then save.

Once created, the label becomes available immediately.

2
Apply labels to messages (manually)

After a label is created:

  • it appears next to the message it is applied to
  • multiple messages can share the same label
  • labels help visually distinguish messages by topic, intent, or outcome

3
Label messages automatically in a flow

You can also apply labels automatically inside workflows using a Label Message action.

Common use cases include:

  • categorizing feedback (e.g., complaint, praise)
  • tagging opt-in or opt-out responses
  • marking messages that require follow-up

Message labels help you:

  • organize large volumes of messages
  • speed up review and quality control
  • improve reporting and analysis
  • add context to exported message data
