Interrupting a Flow from the Contact View: Removing One Contact Without Stopping Others

Sometimes you need to stop automated messages for a single contact—without interrupting the flow for everyone else. From the contact’s profile, you can interrupt their active flow instantly to handle exceptions, provide individual support, or move them into a different interaction. This guide explains when to interrupt a flow, where to find the active flow banner on the contact page, how to interrupt the contact, and what happens after the interruption.

Quick setup checklist

Use this checklist to interrupt a single contact from an active flow directly from their contact page.

  1. Open the contact
  2. Locate the active flow banner
  3. Interrupt the flow for the contact
  4. Confirm what changes after interruption
1
Open the contact

Interrupting a flow affects only the selected contact, not the flow itself or other contacts.

To open the contact:

  • Navigate to the Contacts tab
  • Select the contact you want to interrupt

[CAPTURE: Show the Contacts list with a single contact selected.]

2
Locate the active flow banner

If the contact is currently active in a flow:

  • A banner appears in the chat area
  • The banner indicates which flow the contact is in

[CAPTURE: Show the contact chat view with an active flow banner visible.]

3
Interrupt the flow for the contact

To interrupt the contact’s active flow:

  • Click the Interrupt button in the flow banner
  • Confirm the action (if prompted)

The contact is immediately removed from the flow.

[CAPTURE: Show the contact chat view with the Interrupt button highlighted.]

4
Confirm what changes after interruption

After the flow is interrupted:

  • The contact stops receiving messages from the flow
  • The interruption appears in the contact’s chat history
  • Other contacts in the flow are not affected

[CAPTURE: Show the contact chat history with a system message indicating the flow was interrupted.]

Note: The flow itself continues running for all other contacts.

Common Issues

I don’t see the Interrupt option

Cause: The contact is not currently active in any flow.

Result: No interruption is needed.

I interrupted the flow, but the contact still has past flow messages

Explanation: Interrupting stops future flow messages for that contact, but it does not remove previously sent messages.

Result: You will still see earlier flow messages in the chat history.

I interrupted the wrong contact

Fix: Restart the contact in the appropriate flow manually, or start them via a group selection if needed.
