Prevent costly international sends
If you just need the essentials, follow this quick path:
- Open the channel you want to restrict
- Open Edit from the channel menu
- Disable international sending and save
- Verify failures are due to restriction (not provider errors)
Once disabled, that channel will stop sending to international numbers (contacts may still be reachable via another channel).
Step-by-Step Process
1
Open the channel settings
- Go to Workspace Settings.
- Click Channels.
- Select the phone number / channel you want to restrict.
[CAPTURE: Workspace Settings → Channels list with a phone number selected.]
2
Edit the channel
- On the channel page, click the ☰ menu (top-right).
- Select Edit.
[CAPTURE: Channel page showing the ☰ menu with “Edit” highlighted.]
3
Disable international sending
- In the edit dialog, find the option that allows sending to international numbers.
- Uncheck the box.
- Save your changes.
Result: Once saved, the channel will no longer send messages to international numbers.
[CAPTURE: Channel edit dialog showing “Allow sending to international numbers” unchecked.]
Common Issues & Quick Fixes
Messages to international numbers suddenly fail
- Confirm international sending is disabled on the channel (this is expected behavior).
- Review message logs to confirm failures are due to restriction, not carrier/provider errors.
I don’t see the option to restrict international sending
- Make sure you are editing a phone number–based channel (SMS/Voice).
- Confirm you have sufficient permissions (Admin access may be required).
Some messages still go through internationally
- Check whether contacts are being routed through another channel that still allows international sending.
- Review any Twilio Messaging Service or alternate channel configuration that may override expectations.
