Contact Fields: Deletion

Deleting a contact field permanently removes the field and all stored values for every contact. Because this is irreversible, it’s best to confirm the field is not used in flows, expressions, or reporting before you delete it. Deletions are done from Contacts → Fields in the Manage Fields interface.

Quick setup checklist

Delete unused fields from the Manage Fields interface, and check for dependencies in flows and expressions first.

  1. Open the Manage Fields interface
  2. Locate the field you want to remove
  3. Delete the field
  4. Review impact after deletion

Open the Manage Fields interface

  1. Navigate to the Contacts tab
  2. Click the Fields button

Locate the field you want to remove

  1. Find the contact field you want to delete
  2. Hover over the field row to reveal available actions

Delete the field

  1. Click the X icon at the far right of the field row
  2. Confirm the field is removed from the list

Warning: Deleting a contact field is irreversible. All data stored in the field is permanently lost and cannot be recovered.

Review impact after deletion

After deletion:

  • The field no longer appears in contact profiles
  • All stored values are removed for every contact
  • Any flows or expressions referencing the deleted field may fail or behave unexpectedly

Important: Review your flows and expressions after deleting a field to confirm nothing depends on it.

Common Issues

I deleted a field and a flow started failing

Cause: The deleted field was referenced in a flow action, message, rule, or expression.

Fix: Edit the flow and remove or replace the reference to the deleted field. If needed, recreate the field with the same key and update the flow accordingly.

I can’t find the field I want to delete

Cause: You may be viewing contact profiles instead of the Manage Fields list.

Fix: Go to Contacts and click Fields to open the full fields list.

I don’t see an X icon to delete fields

Possible cause: Your user role does not have permission to manage fields.

Fix: Ask an Administrator or Editor to delete the field, or update your role permissions.
