Group Inclusion & Exclusion on Triggers

Triggers define when and how a flow is initiated and can also place a contact into a group. A flow may be launched by a keyword, a missed call, or scheduled for a future date.

But what if you want a trigger to act only on specific groups—or to exclude certain groups?

  • Open the Triggers tab and click New Trigger.

  • You’ll see the available trigger types.

  • For this example, choose a message keyword trigger that starts a flow.

  • In the trigger’s settings (see the bottom section), you can optionally include only selected contact groups or exclude chosen groups.

Example:
We’ll ask contacts to send the keyword “promo” to start the Satisfaction Survey flow and receive a coupon. To prevent previously registered participants from re-entering, we exclude members of “Completed Registration” and “Segment A.”

Result: contacts in those two groups are blocked from starting the survey; all other contacts who send the keyword are launched into the flow.
